Backing the businesses that build Canada

There are moments when the everyday choices we make take on greater significance. This is one of those moments.

The Canadian economic landscape continues to shift. Costs remain high, supply chains are changing and businesses are being asked to make important decisions in an environment that is anything but predictable.

Canadian entrepreneurs have responded as they always do: with resilience, adaptability and remarkable fortitude. They find new suppliers, rethink how they operate, solve problems and continue creating opportunities for the people and communities around them.

But resilience should never be mistaken for invulnerability.

The Canadian small business ecosystem is more interconected than it sometimes appears. Behind every small business is a network of employees, customers, suppliers, partners and families who depend on its success. When one business struggles, the effects can reach far beyond its doors. That is why where we choose to spend matters. Shopping locally and seeking out Canadian alternatives will not always be the easiest option. It may take a little more time to find the right product, service or supplier. And, in some cases, it may even cost a little more.

Is it worth making the effort? Absolutely.

When we choose to shop with a Canadian small business, the value of that decision extends beyond a single transaction. It helps businesses keep people employed, work with local suppliers, invest in their communities and continue contributing to the economy we all share. This is not about perfection. We cannot buy everything locally or replace every product and service with a Canadian option. It is about making the choice when we can and building the habit of looking here at home first.

Before defaulting to the supplier we have always used, can a Canadian company meet the need? Before placing the next order, is there a local business offering an alternative? Before making a recommendation, is there a Canadian entrepreneur whose work deserves to be recognized?

One decision may feel small. Collectively, those decisions can create meaningful momentum. Momentum we need to help see us through this uncertain time.

At Journey Capital, this commitment is personal. We are Canadian-owned and operated, and our very reason for being is to support Canadian entrepreneurs and the small businesses they have worked so hard to build.

We help business owners access the capital and support they need to pursue opportunities, adapt to changing circumstances and continue moving forward. We do it because we believe that small business ownership represents something deeply important: the possibility of building something of your own, creating greater security for your family, employing others and making a lasting contribution to your community.

That is the Canadian dream as we see it.

But that dream is not sustained by ambition alone. It also requires customers, partners, financing and an entire ecosystem willing to stand behind the people taking the risk. As a Canadian business, we have a responsibility to do more than say we support small business. We must continue listening, responding to the realities entrepreneurs face and finding practical ways to help them keep building. The road ahead may require more adaptation. Canadian entrepreneurs have already shown that they are ready to meet that challenge. But they should not have to carry it alone.

At Journey Capital, we will continue doing our part because when Canadian small businesses have the opportunity to succeed, all of Canada moves forward with them.
